The Blues bounced back from defeat at Burnley to nip across the city and take both points from United in a somewhat tame derby. Both teams had Cups on their minds and although there were flashes of good football, much of the proceedings lacked real passion. Best hit the City bar, Young hit a United post and other chances were there for the taking but were wasted. The only goal of the afternoon arrived 5 minutes before the break. Stepney, under pressure from a long, high lob was undecided what to do about it. He opted for the catch then wished he hadn't as he dropped the ball conveniently at Sumrnerbee's feet, who swept the ball into the net. JOHN MADDOCKS WRITING IN THE CITY PROGRAMME 11TH MARCH 1989
