BELOW DAVID WHITE RECOUNTS HIS FULL HOME DEBUT

[one_sixth][/one_sixth][five_sixth_last]Hearing the ref blow his whistle at Maine Road to signal kick off, thus marking the fulfilment of my dream, was a moment I'll never forget, the first half saw Manchester City attacking the Platt Lane end, which meant I was playing directly in front of dad and Steve, who were ensconced in their usual seats in the Main Stand. And all things considered, I think I did pretty well, I felt sharp and confident, giving the runaround to my marker, Leicester City full back Mark Venus, who, if I say so myself, seemed a bit taken aback by my pace. When we re-emerged after the interval I jogged over to assume my position in front of the Kippax Stand and was given a rousing reception by the Blues' faithful. I thought my chest was going to burst, so proud did I feel.Sadly though, my teammates and I were unable to reward our fans with a win that day, having been shifted inside to accomodate yours truly, Robert Hopkins had bagged our solitary goal, only for us to succumb 2-1. Naturally I was disappointed with the result but, from my own perspective, my big debut couldn't have gone any better. I celebrated in Blackpool, where dad's firm were staging their annual work do. from SHADES OF BLUE by David White with Joanne Lake[/five_sixth_last]
