A BRACE FOR DENNIS TUEART ISN'T ENOUGH TO TAKE ALL THE POINTS AT MAINE ROAD

FROM AN ARTICLE BY JOHN MADDOCKS PUBLISHED IN THE CITY PROGRAMME 29TH MARCH 1980 ... we gleaned a point from a home encounter with neighbours Bolton. A 2-2 draw resulted, 15 games now having elapsed between Manchester City and a win! Relegation was looming . . . lt has already loomed for Bolton; they were virtually assured of a Second Division fixture list the following season. They unkindly played with flair and spirit and overcame the 2-0 lead City built by the 47th minute via Tueart. His first looked a shade fortunate but the second was splendid judgement as he percieved the flight of a Nicky Reid high centre perfectly. Thanks to Carter's skill, Whatmore pulled one back fairly quickly, then Peter Reid, with no thought for his future, tucked away a penalty after Ranson handled. The City full-back was wisely diverted away by his colleagues from his purposeful stride towards the referees at the final whistle.
